Broken poem

Lying in the hospital,
They think I am an actress,
Paid to seem injured,
Broken bones hidden beneath colorful blue,
I’m not broken, my bright smile says.

Back in school,
They said I couldn’t do it,
But here I am,
Defying them, defying gravity,
Standing strong, my will unbroken.

As my body heals,
They think that I am normal,
But I have finally noticed,
My true wounds are seen through my eyes,
Broken on the inside.

(Sarajane wrote this in April after falling our fourth floor window the previous September.)
